The public, as well as many Freemasons, know only Freemasonry through its social aspect. The teachings and inner practices of Esoteric Freemasonry are unknown or often ignored by most.
After being mostly ignored by Masonic organizations, the word Esotericism has been reintroduced in the past years. The goal was essentially to reclaim this aspect of Freemasonry, claiming that it was well understood and even practiced.
As a matter of fact, many candidates are more and more interested in a spiritual or Esoteric approach of our tradition. They are looking for real inner practices. Very often Masons are also eager to go further on a spiritual path and have no other choice than joining other initiatory organizations. They also learn other techniques such as Yogic meditations, Kabbalistic practices, and more. However, all that is not taught directly by lodges. Consequently, practices are incoherent, disorganized, and almost never associated with the Masonic degrees. The basic techniques are not taught, no matter the kind of rituals we are talking about such as Egyptian, Kabbalistic, Christian, or a combination of all.
It is the duty of a Master Mason to know, learn, and practice these spiritual techniques in a coherent way. The techniques are able to change our life and help us make the most of the wonderful Masonic Tradition.
This learning will also help us to mentor with more efficiency.Only an oral teaching is able to achieve such a goal.
